Goolsby & Associates, LLC. was formed in 1998 to provide geological services to the petroleum, industrial, and extractive mineral industries. The "LLC." is based on a working knowledge and understanding of oil, gas, and mineral industry exploration and exploitation. The firms' areas of expertise include:
These areas of expertise are inter-related to provide the client with an integrated approach to problem solving.
In 2001, Goolsby & Associates, LLC. was changed to Goolsby, Finley & Associates, LLC., and the subtitle "Consultants to the Energy Industry" was added.
Goolsby, Finley & Associates, LLC. has a combined experience of over 100 years in all phases of petroleum geology. This experience includes identification, generation and evaluation of prospects, and geological supervision of all phases of development and production. In addition, we have completed several economic analyses to evaluate both prospective and producing properties for acquisition and disposition. The firm has extensive experience in the Northern Rocky Mountian Region with additional experience in the Paradox, Illinois, and Los Angeles Basins, as well as the Mid-Continent Region. Recent projects include and ongoing study of coal bed methane potential and production in the Powder River Basin (PRB). The company has assembled a database or more than 17,000 data points in the Wyoming portion of the PRB. The database includes approximately 80,000 tops and bases of coals. Of these coal picks, 99% have been picked by one geologist resulting in excellent internal consistency in coal picks. In addition, most coals >20 feet thick have been correlated in this database. GF&A is currently assembling a similar database for coal bed methane in the Green River Basin. We are also conducting a number of geologic studies evaluating coal bed methane potential in the Raton, Green River and Wind River basins. Results from these studies have been to used to illustrate stratigraphic relationships among coals in different ares and identify local and regional hydrologic pathways for understanding the de-watering of coals. In addition, the Powder River Basin study has been used to design coal bed methane drilling programs, make funding requests based on the design, and evaluations of properties for acquisition and disposition. Other recent projects conducted by our staff include: Stratigraphic Study of the Frontier Formation in the Wind River Basin; Overview of the Stratigraphy of the Entire Wind River Basin; Deailed Stratigraphy of Select Muddy and Minnelusa Fields of the Powder River Basin for Enhanced Recovery Potential; Regional Stratigraphic Study of the Lodgepole Formation in the Williston Basin; Regional Stratigraphic Study for the Shannon, Sussex, Parkman, and Teapot Formations in the Powder River Basin; and Detailied Field Study of the Waltman-Cave Gulch Field Complex in the Wind River Basin. Goolsby, Finley & Associates, LLC. has extensive experience in vertical and horizontal well site supervision for both conventional wells and coal bed methane wells. During the past three years, the frim has continuously provided well stie geologists to companies drilling both conventional oil and gas and coal bed methane wells. Because of our experience with local geology and understanding of field operations, we have the ability to provide necessary support to field personnel to enhance their ability to make proper geologic interpretations; thereby minimizing adverse economic impacts caused by geologic uncertainty. A list of clients is available. Goolsby, Finley & Associates, LLC. has training and experience in advanced log interpretation techniques in both clastics and carbonates. When possible, the firm uses an integrated approach combing log characteristcs with core and sample characteristics to provide a customized interpretation based on observed data. In addition, we analyze nearby production to betteraid in casing point decisions on exploratory and development wells. The firm writes its' own log analysis algorithms, allowing complete understanding, customization and control over any analysis. Past projects include analysis of Lodgepole, Mission Canyon, and Winnipeg production in the Williston Basin, and Muddy, Minnekahta, and Minnelusa production in the Powder River Basin. Examples are available upon request. We have extensive experience in providing expert geological testimony to the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission where we have an excellent reputation. The geologists of Goolsby, Finley, & Associates, LLC are licensed by the State of Wyoming to practice geology and certified professional geologists by the American Institute of Professional Geologists and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Goolsby, Finley, & Associates, LLC also conducts property and estate evaluations. Results of the evaluations are used for acquisition/disposition determinations and for tax evaluation purposes. Recent evaluations include several coal bed methane projects for acquisition and disposition and property and estate evaluations for holdings in Wyoming, North Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and other states for tax purposes.
